As I embark on my journey as a SEA teacher, Day 1 has already been full of experiences that are changing how I see things and shaping my understanding of this vibrant culture. I woke up early for my 8 AM departure, knowing that a good night’s sleep was essential. However, my plans took an unexpected turn when I experienced a stomach issue at the airport. Instead of resting, I found myself feeling unwell, which made the start of my journey a bit challenging. Despite this, my excitement kept me going. Landing at Juanda Airport in Surabaya was a refreshing surprise. The airport was incredibly clean and organized, making it feel almost luxurious. I was struck by the beautiful restrooms; they were so well-designed that they inspired me to think about how I could create a similar welcoming space in my own home someday.
